Individual Therapy

Dr. Kaplan-Levy primarily uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), evidence-based treatments through which individuals learn different approaches to shift their relationship to their thoughts and feelings. Using developmentally appropriate strategies, Dr. Kaplan-Levy teaches children, adolescents, and adults how to identify and understand their emotions, rather than push them away. Then, Dr. Kaplan-Levy supports individuals in determining what matters most to them and building a catalogue of tools to help them make specific behavior changes that are in line with their goals and values.

Dr. Kaplan-Levy's approach incorporates her training in other cognitive-behavioral therapies, including exposure and response prevention (ERP) to help individuals face difficult emotions and specific fears, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help individuals manage distress and emotion dysregulation.

Dr. Kaplan-Levy's intention for individual therapy is to meet clients where they are and to provide scientifically-validated treatments to assist them in building the lives that they want.

Parent/Caregiver Coaching

In order to support the emotional and behavioral health of children and adolescents, it is crucial for parents/caregivers to have the understanding and skills to regulate their own emotions and behaviors effectively. Using an ACT framework, Dr. Kaplan-Levy helps parents/caregivers develop skills to notice their own reactions to their children, bring themselves back to the present moment, and respond to their children in ways that are aligned with their parenting/caregiving values.

Dr. Kaplan-Levy is certified in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is an evidence-based treatment for children ages 2-7 years old with oppositional and disruptive behaviors. PCIT uses a live-coaching model, which empowers parents to implement skills to enhance the parent-child relationship, increase children’s prosocial behaviors, and decrease problematic behaviors.

Dr. Kaplan-Levy is also trained in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), which is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other related problems. Although children/adolescents are the identified patients, parents/caregivers attend sessions in order to learn how adjusting their behaviors can empower children/adolescents to manage their anxiety more effectively.
